[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-May-02 AT 00:58 AM (EST)]I have a 84 ford van w/ a 300, 6. runs great until it heats up about 30-60 minutes. Something in the emissions?? I've checked everything else. can anyone help me out? The guy I bought it from put a new computer, distributor, coil etc... It runs good till warm then it seems to get no gas. The carb is good , the tank is good, any ideas??
I guess you did the standard procedure and looked down the carb and moved the throttle to see if it squirts fuel? If so, and you do have a fuel problem after 30 min, I would try running it without the gas cap. This would verify the fuel tank was vented properly-sometimes the fuel vapor system can get blocked.
yes I tried that! The fuel lines are ok, the tank seems to look good, tonight I pulled the exhaust off and it ran for awhile, tomarrow I'm gonna get a can of gas and go to the fuel pump and see how long it runs, Its got a new fuel pump/ filters something stops the flow when it gets warm. It did run until I shut it off tonight so........?maybe it's a plugged converter or something. I'm still thinking it's something in the emissions too. I don't know whats in the intake manifold either but when I took the carb. off it looked like it went through like a regular manifold. thanks for the comeback anyway!
i had a problem similar to that in my f100 do you have dual tanks? if so one of em might be rusted out..or both. or check the sending unit... theres a sock type filter and if it gets too full of gunk it will restrict fuel flow to the carb.. after running for a while and durring any sorta acceleration the carb uses more fuel than can go through the filter.. so it starts to sputter... a good way to check this is when the engine starts acting up...pull over and let the engine idle for a while... see if that helps... i made it almost 100 miles like that once..or maybe a clogged line... just my .02
check and see where your fuel lines are at. if they are too close to a heat source, i.e. the exhaust manifold, then you could be getting vapor lock. all this means is that your fuel is becoming a mist before it enters the carburetor, and that is why it only runs poorly after the engine is warmed up. good luck,

>Does the truck start after it sets for a period of time? I fixed the problem! I ripped out the computer controlled emissions and timing. I replaced it with a distributor with points. Everything works great now. It runs better then ever!
