Just got in from test driving a F250 4X4 CC with a V-10. Getting ready to get a new 2005 SD. Man that V-10 was nice. Smooth & powerful. I was leaning to going back to a PSD. I have a 2000 CC 4X4 with a PSD. The V-10 was so sweet I don't know now. The power & quiet engine was really nice. I don't tow much over 3000 lbs so either will be overkill .I am a little worried about fuel mileage on the V-10 ,but $4400. add on for diesel buys alot of gas. For those of you wondering how the V-10 runs, it is super. If only ford would let me order a Screaming Yellow V-10 , I know what I would order tomorrow.
Hey glad you liked your ride. I too am thinking about getting the V10. But giving up the diesel is hard. But the reliabilty in the 6.0 is not there. I have been giving the Dodge some thought but I need the crew cab. So I too have been watching the gas milage posts. It seems they range from 9.5 to 13mpg depending how you drive it. No one is posting how there V10 left them stranded or romped or leaked oil. Oh well I am rambling nice to hear someone else is thinking of giving up the psd for the v10.
It seems like it happens every day with all the buybacks and such, the V-10 is strong, unless you do some BIG highway driving the V-10 is great, like you said it takes a lot of fuel to equal $4400. If you do go for the V-10 make sure you get some gears in it, the 3.73's are not enough, go with at least the 4.10's, the 4.30's are perfect!
the v10 is awsome,i'm waiting for mine. every body in this site that has one has told me same as the 5.4 for mpg . yes 4400 $ buys a lot of gas but just think you also will not have to plug it in come winter. not add antigell with every tank.cheap spark plugs ver. expensive injectors for the diesel. take a look at the posts in here the men have posted a lot of help and love their v10's esp. when they run away from a hemi. my road test i needed a depends and still have my bseg. quote from fredvon4 10 burning 4 turning. go for that v10 you will love it
Dukfvr, you own a good diesel now, I had a 95 and 2000 7.3 PSD. Good strong motors and decent mileage, around 17 average. I bought an 04 6.0 and I was disapointed in the mileage from the start. Then I had to get hauled in twice and got an oil leak. They gave me a reflash to get the thing to run and it became noisier and stinkier but did not romp anymore. Ford is walking away from the 6.0 in 07 but I walked away last week when the truck in my signature showed up. Ordering that V10 was the best choice for me. I love the smooth, quiet, power and the quick warm up time. Babe is the nicest vehicle I have ever driven and I calculate the difference in mileage is aound 2-3 MPG less than my PSD. I only put about 12000 miles a year on my trucks so it would take about 6 years to get the extra cost of a PSD returned in fuel savings. By that time the diesel motor is off warranty and a huge gamble to keep. Turbos and injectors will cost you mega bucks. I feel a lot more comfortable keeping a gas motor off warranty. I hope this truck is a keeper. I had a Toyota Camry for 16 years and I would love to keep this truck that long. Good luck in finding a truck you like, Wrench.

I've always had a bad habit that after owning a truck for a little over a year I start looking for excuses to trade it in and get something else. Rarely have I kept a vehicle longer than 2 years. That was until 2.5 years ago when I bought my '00 250 w/ v10. I test drove this truck and had to have it. Been over 2 years and I can't think of a single reason to get rid of it. Bought it with 45K and it just turned 70K and it runs like it was brand new. Only minor maintance since I've owned it, and absolutly no complaints from whats under the hood. Gotta say that I love being able to pull my bass boat on an uphill grade and still out accelarate most cars! LOL
Yeah, the gas milage kind of sucks, but then I don't know too many people that say 'gee, I need better gas milage. So, I think I'll go over hear and look at this big honkin' truck'
Ya, you will enjoy a V-10... I would have liked a diesel too, but I bought my truck in the height of the 6.0 worries.. My brother in law is a Ford service director and wanted a V-10 Harley SD, but the V-10's were on back order so he bought a diesel. He likes it, but on the way across country, one of the injectors leaked into the cylinder and when he started it, it bent a piston rod. Of course warranty took care of it, but that sucks...
He only gets 16 on the road, I get 14 empty. I am happy..
A lot of guys won't be able to get an accurate reading on gas milage during the winter if they let thier V-10s sit and warm up often.
I drove my 01 V-10, 3.73 gears and and Auto tranny, 310 miles this weekend on almost all 60- 70 mph highways in Eastrn Wshington and Northern Idaho. Not flat land by any means and about 1000# of people and gear.
310 miles and it took 21.7 gallons of 87 octane. I drive it preaty hard, pass every chance I get.
I don't think anything over 14mpg is to shabby.
