Sometimes I know just enough to get in trouble. I changed the fuel filter in my 7.3IDI and did not fill it before replacing it. ( I had a 1997 powerstroke and did not have to do do that.) I know I have to bleed or prime each inj. line. Do I need to disconect the GPs somewhere? I don't want to buy a new batch of them. I am sure this topic has been worn out over the years, I have not come across it yet as I review old posts. Thanks everyone out there, I really appreciate all the help etc.
I would first take it out and fill it. You might be able to let air out of the schrader valve on the filter housing. Don't touch the gps. If no one else comes along with some better information, try doing a search. I have seen this in a thread not long ago.
I did a search in this forum -"priming fuel filter". Go to the second page near the bottom - "Truck won't start after fuel filter change". From 12/28/04. Good luck with it.
Get someone to turn the key and you bleed the air at the Schrader valve. Do about 15 seconds cranking with 2 minutes in between. The gps will operate as normal and may fire off the engine. Have a rag handy for when it squirts fuel. It may run a little ruff at first and can take a couple starts to remove all the air possibly!!! Cycle the gps at every start attempt...........
Fill the filter before you install it with clean fuel. Crack the fuel injection lines loose on the injectors. Crank the engine over for max 15 seconds at a time. Allow the starter to cool down for minute or 2. When you see fuel coming from injection lines finger tighten the lines to the injectors and fire the engine up. Shut down, and wrench tighten the injection lines. There will be fuel on top of the engine but will get it started a lot quicker.
Thanks for all the tips everyone!!!!. Hope to get at it this weekend. It will be nice to hear that ol' 7.3 again!!!
