I have a 04 F-350 w/V10, every morning when I first start the truck up I notice that it makes this noise that sounds like an airplane trying to take off, almost like a loud humming noise. I believe that it is coming from the air intake tube but I'm not sure, I'm taking it back to the dealer Thursday but I thought I'd ask here first to see if anybody else has had a simular problem. Any help would be great, Thanks.
The sound does come about only when first started, but recently it has also been doing it while I am driving but the moment I step on the gas the noise goes away. It sounds like it is coming from the air intake tube, but I just don't know where. I tryed the K&N air filter thinking that the stocker was to restrictive but no change. I'll let you know what the dealer say's. Thanks for the imput.
I hear the same thing..kind of like a low roaring until you take off. I have had it last a few seconds after moving and have had it stop immediately. I haven't complained about it but I am curious.
I've had my truck for 14 months now and it does it occasionally. It only happens when I first turn the key to start the truck. I first noticed it when the weather was really hot but it also does it when it is really cold. I garage my truck at night and it never seems to do it when started in the garage. Since the noise only lasts about half a second I've never been too concerned about it but now I'm curious to see what your dealer has to say.
Probably the clutch fan.It will make noise when first started and will go away after a few seconds of aceleration.Every Ford truck I have owned since 92 has done this, having said that....I consider it normal.
The sound my truck does is engine noise. It is a very short roar right after ignition. Almost like you had the gas pedal to the floor. Does not always do it and has done it since new.
I ‘m certain that the roaring noise has nothing to do with the engine, but is more likely on of the components. The rush of air through the blades of the engine fan can definitely be one source. It gets up to speed (up to idling RPMs) and can still remain engaged. Then when you get going down the road can even roar louder as you increase engine speed. Soon, the fan will disengage and all is normal.
In the case where electric fans are installed, one of the components or even a normal-warming engine can cause a roar. If all of your trucks were side by side the noise would be different, I’d wager.
One could be just the resonance of the V10 – nature of the beast, so to speak – as the exhaust travels down the cold pipes. This in conjunction with cold starts only while the IAC is regulating the air/fuel mixture. Simply put – it’s the engine exhausts. This roar is short-lived, too.
Another cause could be the serpentine belt on cold mornings, but this would be more of a whining hum than roar.
Whining hum… Imagine that.
Then there’s the idler pulley, the power steering pump, and the notorious growl of the air compressor (A/C).
Air rushing through the throttle body is highly unlikely, IMO.
But, after all this, I’m going to have to give a listen to mine this afternoon, just to be sure I’m not just used to some sort of roar other than the engine fan.
