Turbo Flutter?

Now that I have replaced my stock air cleaner with a K&N FIPK type, I have noticed a sound which is coming from the Turbo when its fully spooled up and the truck changes gears. Almost soulds like air is trying to excape back thru the turbo back into the air cleaner. And it has gotten worse since installing an 85HP Predator tune. Is this what they call Turbo flutter/stall or ??

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I am getting ready to do my exhaust next month and was wondering if I should install a wicked wheel at the same time? How easy is installing one. I’m mostly worried about getting the Turbo back in correctly. There is not much room around the turbo. What are some of the pitfalls. I have not yet wrenched on my truck yet except for installing my gauges and doing the filter changes. This is my first vehicle that I will have both feet off the ground while working on it.

The "wooshing" sound from the turbo is completely normal, and even happens with your stock intake. With the stock intake, the sound is muffled so you don't notice it. Installing the Wicked Wheel will significantly reduce it.

As far as the install goes, since you are changing your exhaust, might as well do the wheel too. There are some who have changed theirs without removing the turbo, others say it's best to go ahead and remove it. Do a search on the forums and you'll find instructions on how to install it.

I will definitely do searches on this for the next few weeks. I just want to be prepared just in case. Plus download any install sheets I can get my hands on. Now I guess would be a good time to start spraying penetrating oil on some of the bolts, I just hope it doesn’t catch on fire…

Spray penetrating oil on the flange connecting to the downpipe since this is the hardest part to get off. Spray it on and let it sit overnight (do not drive it), and you should be good to go the next day.

I am one of the people that changed the wheel with the turbo in the truck. Since there was no oil leaks I thought it better not to fix what is not broken and remove the intake housing, exhaust downpipe and change out the wheel. Everything went smoothly.
