I just changed the D rated firestones to the the E rated firestones. I hate them-but they were free. Previous Suburban was Michelin LTX E range-the best tire for dry, rain and snow! Can't wait to go back!
I purchased the michelin ltx m/s or is it just m/s load range e. I could not find them for under 200.00 a peice untill I found this little repair shop run but a guy from lebenon...he got them for me for 159.00 a piece installed...
I've got the Pirrelli Scorpion STR (A) "E" load rating. They have cool looking side walls and are great on the highway but I have to agree with Toypullers statement about flinging rocks and getting small ones stuck in the tread. They are really good for wet and or snowy roads, I have to give them that. I just got back from a 1500 mile road trip in rain/snow conditions with no problems. I don't take my X off road much so I wouldn't no the traction in mud. Such a large vehicle is not really meant for heavy beating in my book. I have a pickup for that...My X is primarily a boat towing, people hauling cruiser. I love it...
Do a search on this forum for D vs E load range tires and handling. There was quite a bit of discussion in a thread here earlier about compromising YOUR SAFETY with only D range tires on such a large vehicle. I'm shopping for new tires for my 250 and it's been difficult to find E tires that will meet my needs ( a little offroad in camp grounds at the race track but mostly asphalt). I like the Pirelli's but want to go to 285's instead of the 265's. Check out the 6.0 thread also. Lots have gone with the Geolanders and love them. Agressive tread and still very quiet.
Just a thought, if you take the total weight of your truck and divide by 4- the rated load handling capacity for "D" rated tires doesn't meet your needs (for me at least, with the Excursion), got to go with the "E"'s. Just my 2 cents.
