pro rating tires?

How does this work? I bought some tires for my 01 f-350 through pepboys and they had a 50K mile warranty...now with around 14K miles on them they are half shot . Pepboys said wnen your ready to change out the tires come back in a week or so and they will pro rate them and take the money off of the new tires....how does this work is it the less tread you have the more $$$ you get off new tires...or the more tread left the more $$$$ you get off the new tires? They I beleive are the wrong load range on the truck ( C ) I think ( E ) are suposed to be on the truck. Also on my dads Aerostar work van he wants to know if you can cross rotate radial tires from left side to the right side?

Hi-
The more tread left the more the tires are worth. However, if their half-life is 14k miles on a 50k mile warranty that sucks. And yeah C load range isn't up to your 350's capability. If they're not directional you can rotate the tires anywhere on the truck. Someone may disagree with me though...
I know buying tires sucks cause it's always a compromise between cost and what you want( that's why i will buy used often) but you've got a 2001 truck, don't go to Pep Boys!

Well it was all about cost. The tires at pep boys were the most aggresive mud tires I could get for my money...($94.00 A peice) I wanted something from 4-wheel parts store but they were alot more the pep boys tires came out to being $505.00 bucks and the tires I really wanted would have came out to being $761.00 being that im flat broke at the moment saving that 256.00 bucks ment alot. Thank you for your help how do find if they are directional tires is that when they would have a arrow on the tire saying ' right side' ' left side' ?

Pro-Rating works like this...

Lets say the tire cost 100 dollars, and that you only got 25,000 miles out of them, even with rotation every 6k - 7.5k miles (this is stated in most mfg'ers milage warranties, going over just once voids the warranty). Let's also say that you wore the tires down to 2/32 as per the manufacturers tire warranty.

Basically you got 50% use of the tire even with regular rotations.

Most tire places will give you a 50% refund per tire towards the purchase of 4 more tires from their tire place, some places will just give you back half of what you paid for the tires...but this usually is rare.

on the Aero star, yes you can cross rotate using the criss cross pattern as follows (below), as long as the tires aren't directional...most directional tires have a arrow pointing which they must rotate, then you can only go front to back.
