66 chrome rear bumper

For a stock 66 rear chrome bumper what years did they use the same bumper?

What bumper brakets will work?

Is there any difference in the 64 thru 66 rear chrome bumpers and 67 thru 72 rear chrome bumper?

Which is best, re-chrome or reproduction?

Thanks, Look forward to your replys.

I know more about the fronts than the rears, so hopefully someone else will chime in here.
The LMC catalog lists 64-72 as being the same fitment.
After looking at a lot of repro bumpers, I felt they were unacceptable quality in spite of the attractive price. The machining prior to plating is very poor, resulting in a dull finish. If you can't see your reflection clearly, it's not a quality piece. All of them (and I suspect they all come from the same Taiwan manufacturer) looked very 'watery' in reflection. The metal is much thinner than genuine Ford and the backside looked like it would start rusting if not painted or treated.
For $225-250 you can get an original bumper rechromed, and it will look far superior. I used Tri-City Plating, and was very happy with the service and results. Like they say, you get what you pay for.

I agree up to 72, not sure how many years prior to 65, but 64-72 would be correct.

The one I have on my '61 Uni is different than the one on my '63 Uni Custom Cab. The '61 looks like an upside down front but narrower with a drop in the center. The '63 looks like a piece of "C" channel steel with slightly rounded ends and again a drop in the center. They do have the same mount brackets and appear to interchange. They don't match the bolt pattern on the '66 I bought but look similar.

The "Correct" rear bumper on a uni is a carry over from the 57 to 60 series.

Its a west coast east coast thing as to what style of bumper was installed. typically western trucks had the channel iron bumper.

That makes sense because the '63 was built west and the '61 was built east. All three ( I have a '66 also) of the bumpers are chrome, some good some light chrome. I found a bumper shop here locally (DFW, TX) that does a great job stripping and rechroming. I saw another shop in Tennessee on My Classic Car but didn't catch the name.

Does anyone else want to weigh in on a re-chromed or a reproduction rear chrome bumper for a 66?

I am going to the junk yard friday. Were the rear bumper brackets for a chrome rear bumper also used 64 thru 72?

Thanks

Rear bumper brackets for the style side bed are the same from 61-72. Ford widened the rear frame for 73. The later (73 up to ?) four piece rear brackets for the style side bed will fit the earlier 61-66 trucks and the 61-72 bumpers bolt up with no problem. I agree with the poor quality of the re-pro bumpers but they are fine for as driver. If you have deep pockets or are building a restored truck I'd pop for the re chromed originals.

My '61 & '63 have the same brackets and bolt pattern. The '66 has brackets that will bolt up to the truck but don't work with the other bumpers. I'd say if you find a bumper grab the brackets also.
