I am 18, and I think for Spring Break I'm going to take a road trip to Area 51, about 100 miles outside of Las Vegas. No I'm not expecting to see any aliens or anything, but I have been intrigued by that place since I was little. Plus there are several stops along the way I want to make, such as my grandfather's military base in Pyote, TX. I believe its about a two day drive from central Texas, and I'll probably just go alone. It would be nice to have about a week away from everything - work, school, crazy people... I'm looking forward to it.
Good Luck! That is if you don't get shot! I have had few friends that have got a little too close and they will run you right out of there. There is really nothing to see because it is hidden back behind mountains. I have been rabbit hunting up by there once when I was a kid, but I don't remember much(just the rabbit looking at the spotlight and then boom! ) Just be sure that you have a dependable vehicle, not much of anything or anyone there to help you.
my most memorable one is when iwas driving truck and teaching my brother to drive picked up a load in boston and delivered it in L.A. 68 hours later. what a trip. but now the most memorable one for my family life is just about 150 miles me,wife and kids went to the U.P. camping . what a great relaxing vacation
The one I won't forget was the going from MN back up to Alberta (1100miles) and the first day driving home the kid puked all over the car and the second day hit a blizzard.
Favorite was actually a short trip (2 hours) to do some drinking and go to Edge Fest (rock concert) up in Calgary AB.
Peter94---nothing wrong with packing up and heading out with no destination. I've driven 4 hours out of my way by myself just to get lunch.
A few years ago, my family and I drove to the Outer Banks in NC (about 10 hours for us) and got dinner, then drove back. We spent a total of two hours down there; 30 minutes to go to the realty place, get a house, and do it all again in a week for 6 days.
Just got off of a bus about 30-40 hours ago...10 hour bus ride to Vermont.
Last March, 2 guys and I picked up and drove 18 hours to Mardi Gras on 4 day notice. Great time, tough haul, but it was all worth it to see that place.
2 years ago took me to South Bend, Indiana to see the greatest college football team in America, and it took about 13 hours.
All vacations, but sometimes my work sees me in the car for up to 500 miles a day. Not too bad, especially since I love to drive, but only recently got the SS Morgan ('88 Bronco/Professional Gas Hog) off the road and brought out the Dinghy, a 1999 Nissan. Not as cool as the Bronc, but with the money I've saved in gas I can go out and buy cool at this point. Ridiculous.
Coming up in March.....St Patty's Day in Chi-town.
