hi everyone, i have a 99 f250 sd, and i am thying to decide what lift to get. i was wondering if anyone has seen a 4" lift with 35's, and a 6" lift with 37's? what is the visual difference? i know it is a lot cheaper to go with the 4", but does the 6" look that much bigger? or is it really just a waste of extra money to satisfy our big egos on the trucks (its ok, i admit im at fault there too!! ) thanks in advance !!

Whatever direction you go...your truck will look great....My advice is to go as high as you are willing to within the limitations of your budget. Once the novelty wears off...almost everyone who has lifted their truck has gone higher or would like to go higher at some point...to include myself.
As far as the price goes for the lift kit itself, I got a Superlift 4" lift kit with the Bilstein shock upgrade for $1087.96 plus tax while the 6" kit with the Bilstein shock upgrade was only $1172.96 plus tax. Both kits had the rear blocks. With my 2002 F350 SRW CC 4x4, the rear springs were more than enough since I had the camper package. The price difference between 35x12.50R17E and 37x12.50R17E Super Swamper SSR tires were only $31.40 from NTW. The wheels being 17x10's were no price difference. So you're not talking much more dollars on a 6" lift vs the 4" lift. Remember if you get the 4" lift and later decide to get a 6" lift, it will be considerably more than what I just mentioned. So get the lift you plan on staying with.
thanks for the advice guys. i did the same thing with a dodge i used to own.... i ended up at 6 inches, in 3 different steps... not something i want to do again. with those lifts u had kab..... how did you like the rear block set up? im trying to also decide if its worth the extra 300.00 for the rear spring upgrade. also, where did you get your lift through? i think i will just go for the 6", and the 37's. what are your opinions on a spring/bracket combo lift? if i went with a 4" spring and a 2" bracket, would that be a better ride than just a 6" spring? on the 6" kit you bought, was that just new springs up front, and then huge blocks in the rear? thanks a bunch !!!
well, im looking at spending 700 bux for rear springs......... i NEED them due to axle wrap.... if you have a low/no power vehicle, you may be ok...... if you have a psd, get the psrings for less than half what it will cost you later to replace them...... i have a 5" block under my stock 4" f350 blocks.......thats some windup!
good luck, and go 6 if your even contemplating it......forget you ever thought about 4.
On my truck I have the block lift in the rear. Once I got the carrier bearing shimmed correctly, I've had no issues with vibration or axle wrap. On the road it's a nice ride, and offroad it does extremely well. I don't do anything crazy off road, just mild stuff here and there. I think if you are looking to do a lot of heavy off roading, the rear spring lift would be a better option.
I say go for the 6" all spring. With the 6" you still won't have to extend your driveshaft or get new brake lines and whether you decide on the 35s or 37s they will both fit and look good. With the 4" you loose your option of using 37s without some cutting. The all spring will be a lot more solid reduceing the chance of spring wrap from the added leverage of taller tires and they just look better and more solid than having blocks stacked between your axle and springs. If you are going through the trouble and expense to lift your truck and you intend to keep it a while, I wouldn't cut any corners, go for the little extra expense. It may save you money and trouble in the long run and you will be glad you did.
I was trying to decide between a 4" or 6" lift. After I found out everything I could, I decided to go with the Superlift 4" lift from 4 Wheel Parts. I had been going to their store so much to check out prices and get info, I found that the people at the store were great to work with and the mechanics were diligent in their installations. Although I have the mechanical ability to install a lift kit, due to a bad back from a car accident 8 years ago I decided to let others do the work to avoid more pain. It took alot of thought before I decided on the 4" lift. For my needs it was the best choice. If I ever decide that I want bigger tires such as 38's, I can do what {OF}Smiley did and install Bushwacker cutout fender flares. He has about a 5" lift by using the X springs and 3.5" spring hanger brackets and runs 38" PJ's which look small compared to the space in his fender wheels. Check out his gallery and see what I mean. For what I intend to use the truck for, the rear blocks will do. If I find out they don't work, I can always get the rear springs separately for about the same difference between the rear block kit or the all spring kit.

I just had my 04' done and I chose the Skyjacker 6" with BFG's on 17" rims. I cant wait to wear out the 35's and get 38's. The reason I went with 17" rims was for upsizing the tires next time around. I have photos in gallery

I hope you're planning on doing some cutting if you're going to cram 38's under a 6" lift. My 37's rub on my 6.5" lift, so I know 38's would do some fender damage.

I hear ya Silverbullet. I would probably try to get longer shackels for the 6" to make it a 8" lift. I havn't completely researched it yet. I just got the 35's and I think I will have them for quite awhile!

Just burn 'em up! That's what I did with my last set (36" pj's) just to end the torture. Once I burned those up, then I didn't feel so bad about buying new ones. ha ha.
