Has any one installed this intake tube on their 5.4L?? This intake tube seems like a cheap alternative to replacing the entire intake system. You are able to retain your factory air box.
Hey, Lard, when you get it could you do an update? One question I have is the opening larger than the stock opening? Does it plug into the fender well the same as the stock? It's hard to tell with the small pictures of the Airaid Jr. I might want to buy one myself to save the time of modifying the stock one. Not a bad price.
yes the opening is much larger than the stock one. no it doesnt plug into the same place, it takes air from behind the driver side headlight. very good buy

Interesting. My modified stock intake idea would be routed to the same headlight area with a 3" opening. I figured a cost of around $75-80 to do my mod plus the time, hassle and labor. If I can get the airaid tube for around $100 then that would be the way to go. Thanks.
Wonder if there will be any problems with snow clogging the tube???
Good question. Maybe someone from alaska can answer that one!! I don't think snow gets up that high under the hood or our trucks would have a lo of problems with moisture. Also I hava a friend that just bought a new Subaru that has the stock intake with a very large opening going to the front in a similar fashion. Since there are a lot of the tubes and Airaid Jr. systems sold, I doubt it is an issue. I'm going to order just the tube (not the Airaid Jr.). Found it for $92 free shipping!!! I'll use the Wix replaceable air filters instead of Airaid.
It should be in sometime next week. Yes I always look at MotorHaven first but they did not just have the tube by itself. Got my great price from Autoanything .com.
I got my Jr yesterday. It took me 14 min to install it and I was taking my time. It does not mount in the same fender hole as the factory intake tube. The Jr opening sits behind the driver's headlamp. The factory intake is about a 2" diameter tube at the inlet. The Jr is about 5" square at the inlet plus it has a scoop on the bottom. There is a definite difference in performance, you get pushed back in the seat harder when you give it the gas. The biggest difference for me was at about 3800 rpm (cruising at about 45 mph and punched the gas as if to pass), the truck seemed to boost and really pushed me back. Mind you, I wasn't beating on the thing and the reason I wanted this mod was to give a little extra help towing my travel trailer. I have been keeping track of my mpg, hope to show a difference with the Jr. I have some pictures but the gallery won't let me upload them. I will let you all know when they are up.
NOTE: When you disconnect your neg battery cable, your trip odometer resets but your radio presets are safe. Lost my last mileage reading for calculation my mpg before Jr install
Keep trying to update my gallery but keep getting: Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /data/httpd/ford-trucks.com/htdocs/user_gallery/editalbum.php on line 726
Thanks for the update, Lard. I can't wait till mine comes in. I downloaded the install instructions and they look so easy even a lamo mechanic like I can do it. I just ordered the tube (no airaid filter) but my bet is I'll still see some gains. Later I'll switch to the Wix (or Napa Gold filter) which ranks pretty high in air flow tests considering it is a disposable.
The pictures are in my gallery now. I had them posted on the thread (since the gallery was down) but a mod must have deleted them. Didn't want to do it that way-sorry!

I would say no. The most notable differences were at take-off and 3800 (as if passing).
