I have a 94 Flareside reg cab.I can not see out the rear sometimes at nite when launching the trailer. I was wondering has anyone added the fog lamp style back up lights ? J.C.Whitney sells the KC Hi Lites Kit fo 73.00! Due to my nite vision and Tinted windows I would like any Ideas or ijnput .They say (KC) it is a rather easy install... Any Idea comments or sugestions would be appreciated

Why not try over watt (brighter) bulbs. Simple and cheep.
You can install any type of aux. lighting to the rear, but you should use use a relay, and wire large enough to cary the load. These can be controlled by the reversing switch, or by your switch.
lol, i thought of putting my old 55w fog lights as reverse lights on my 93. I currently have APC superwhite 3157 bulbs for reverse, but they look blue instead of superwhite....
They way to do it is with a Relay, like Ultraute said.
Unless you hook up a couple of 200w lights, over loading won't be a problem. I mounted 2 little requtangle ones on my roll bar right behind the off road lights. I don't know how I made it without them. I did mount a lighted switch on the dash so I could cut them off. So as not to blind anyone in a lighted parking lot.
Thanks Guys! You all are great! I was thinking of the lights by KC hi lites only because JC Whitney said thay were easy and the price seems right .I am not too literate onelectrical but I can read,SonI do not think I will have a problem doing the Job
Right now I have 2 55W Neon Coated lights on my grille (soon to come off as im putting a new grille in). I also have 2 55W Ion Gold lights under the bumper. Very bright!.
The bumper ones are powered through a relay. The relay is connected to my parking lights wire. That's the method I'll be using for the reverse lights, except the relay will be connected to the reverse light wire.
Great Then That settles it=) I will get the set from JC Whitney and install them! It states that I do just that and it will not overload the system .It says just tap into the reverse lights and you should be ready to go!Like you said, Small brite and low profile!

I just went to JCWhitney and looked at the lights you are going to buy. It states in the kit that it comes with a relay. It has 2 55watt halogen lights. 55x2=110watts. 110 divided by 12 volts = 9.2 amps I would use the relay they give you to be safe.
I believe its on a 30amp fuse, even though a 15 would do. Plus I’ll bet that kit comes with a very thin 18-20 ga wire (knowing JCW). Now the most important part, Where should he draw power from? Maybe he should relocate the battery. I mean he may want to drive down the highway in reverse. So his choice is to connect directly to the backup light (6ft of wire) and if I’m wrong, blowing a fuse, or stringing 30ft of wire thru the frame and is a cheap relay away from having to ask someone if they have jumper cables. Look, a relay is just overkill for this application, I’ve been running mine for over 3 years now and this is not a vital system (ie Headlights ).
