Angry Rod Noise??

My son and I tore his 352 apart and the block looked good. So we checked a few rod bearings. they looked good. the heads were toast so we rebuilt them. will we finally got everything back together and fired it up. I can hear a noise especially on acceleration. It sounds like a rod but not sure? How can I check? Thanks

So, you did not replace rod bearings?? What all was done to bottom end?
Thinks can "look" good, but if they are worn then it will knock.

We did not do any bottom end work. It was strictly a visual check and a comparrison to a book that had pictures of rod bearings and told about there ware. The ones we took off looked fantastic and the cylinder walls had no wear on them from the piston rings so I figured that the bottom end had been done recently?

Did you keep all the bearing halfs together as the original sets with their corresponding rod?? Tops and bottoms locations also??

If you switched them around, the wear pattern is different. This will more than likely produce problems. Just like cam and lifters, once they get set in, if you switch them around there is a good chance they will destroy themselves.

If I could do it agin I would have it torn apart and rebuild the whole thing. However time and money are not on my side. So did the best I could with what i had.

I have had several Mechanic friends of mine listen to the motor. They both said its not a rod noise. The noise is more towards the front of the motor and it can be heard loudest when you put the stethascope on the distributor. I have a new one that i will put in and see if that makes a differance!

If it is coming from the distributor, then check the timing gear cover as well.
There is a pin in the cam gear, and if it has worked loose, it may be striking the front of the block or the inside of the cover.
