390 Engine Timing

74 f250 390 timing issues
what to do timing is off and thinking possibally 180 it trys to turn over but doesn't and is spitting fire from carb. Dwell is right, new starter,celanoid, condencer, rotor,cap we are stuck need some advice here

Instead of pulling the distributor you could bring number one cylinder up to top dead center on the compression stroke. then pull all of your plug wires. put the number one wire on the corresponding to where the rotor is pointing. The rotor on a 390 turns counter clockwise. The next wire on the distributor cap would go to number five cylinder. put all the wires on and it should run. The firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Hope this helps.
