Is it possible to add cruise to a truck that doesn't have it? Is it a tough job to do? Do you have to pull the entire steering wheel or just the cover? This would be on a 96, 3.0
Man I would like to see a reply from someone on this matter, I am with you Wresleu, I have a 98 ranger 2.5 quad would also LOVE to add cruise, I know there used to be aftermarket kits out there, but finding more info would rock!! LOVE THIS SITE
A few years ago, JC Whitney had a kit on sale for about $80, so I got one. You don't have to remove the steering wheel unless you want to have the controls right there. The kit I got had a sensor that counted driveshaft rpm using magnets attached to the shaft, a switch mounted on the dash, a brake switch emergency cutoff, and the 'smarts' and vacuum operated throttle actuator that went under the hood. Also there was a spark sensor option that could be used instead of the driveshaft if I remember correctly. A decent wiring harness was included to hook it all together, but you have to have a hole in the firewall for the wires to go through. Took about a day, what with Budweiser and all.. I have been very satisfied with it.

Reason: add more info
I installed an Audiovox afternarket CC, purchased at Autozone for about $100, on my 2004 4.0L. There's a little pod that you sitck on the dash somewhere, so it's not integrated into the wheel like the stock system. But it works very well. Took maybe 8-10 hours, but I think I could do the next one in 4 hours.
Ford makes a factory add on for cruise, it is expensive.. However I have seen them on ebay for different years and engines cheap. You must get the exact year and engine so look around.
I have a friend that goes to college out of state so he wanted cruise in his cavalier because of how much he traveled. He had the dealership install a aftermarket cruise and he has been happy with it.
