Got no response in V10 forum so figured I would have better luck here. My four-month old F250 V10 had a major breakdown today. Only 1500 miles, not a daily driver. 8ft bed, regular cab, no ups, no extras. Much snow here in Beantown over the last week so I have been using it to commute in 4WD high mode most of the time including brief (5 mile) highway drive but no highspeed over 50 MPH due to weather. Today, I needed to use 4WD low mode to get out driveway and heard a couple of clunks that I though were ice chunks bouncing of chassis. It was very cold (less than 5 degrees) and I had trouble moving shifter into reverse. Finally, I was able to get in gear and back out. Then I changed to 4WD high mode and set off for work. One mile later, in bumper to bumber on local road going 5 MPH, I depressed clutch to slow down and stop. The truck bucked to quick stop like I had popped the clutch. I turned into parking lot and it kept on bucking each time I depressed clutch. Disengaged 4WD and unlocked hub. The bucking stopped but I could not get it into 1st or 2nd gear without grinding and had to limp home in third gear. The dealer has it now. Has anyone experienced similar problems? Is it a clutch? transmission? 4WD type problem? Any info about recalls or widespread problems of this type? Is this the snap ring problem mentioned elsewhere?

Reason: Typing ERROR
sounds a little like mine when the trans oil disappeared. I drove for a 70 mile trip and could not shift when I was about 4 miles from home, limped home too. we opened the ZF5 and found the bearing between the input and main shaft had over heated and was welded in position making it like a single shaft.this eliminated any need for gears and the power went directly through. Luckly both shafts were savable and I only replaced the bearing. all is now fine. the main difference is mine is a 1990 with 180000 miles. Good Luck Phil
