Someone explain this to me. i've got a 82 F-150, if you set the timing to a stock 302, 15432678 it runs hot constantly. But if you switch it to a 351 firing order it runs fine... can someone explain this to me? b/c i'm stumped
TIA
If you mix the firing order up, you should have an engine that is missing very bad. If you can't tell the difference when switching wires, something is wrong. Pull each wire off one at a time with the engine running, and each one should make a noticeable difference in smoothness. The ones that don't are dead cylinders.
:-( its alright guys, it died today. on the way home it started pouring smoke and running hot, losing oil pressure and rattling bad. Its in the driveway... i suspect the engine is gone... I've got a bone stock 302 from a lincoln town car (89 model) i'm going to remove the efi and carb it, with probably a c4, i might go to a 300 which is what the truck came with. Any suggestions?
The Rein"car"(shouldn't that be truck?)-nation should start tomorrow, i'm still debating between the 300 six and another v8. I'm leaning towards the six. I've got a v8 on hand, but it needs a trans. I'm not using the AOD in the truck now, soon as that motor swings out, that transmission is one word. Junk! I'm going to shoot for a 4spd granny low trans, or either a good solid c4 or c6, with either engine. thinking about a 4bbl and some headers. not so sure on what to get yet. thanks for any input.
