Help With Transmission mounted E-brake
Help With Transmission mounted E-brake
I have an 99 E450 box truck with 7.3. Does anyone around here have any experience with working on the Emergency brake mounted on the transmission. How to remove and replace shoes inside.

according to the shop manual there is no servicing instructions just replacement.
The last time I worked on one of these, I was told they were not serviceable and needed to be replaced.
I hope that this has changed for your sake.

The older models had thin tin shields on the transmission bearing carrier, and a slot in the pressed steel drum to adjust the star wheel. As I remember there was no cable adustment on Fords other than the top **** of the Orshelen lever could be turned to take up slack. Right to tighten . My only reason for mentioning the shields it would you give you some idea since I'm back in the early 80's.
Yes you need to take the drum off and you can replace the shoes, the thing I'm thinking of the shoes shouldn't be bad unless the seal leaks and soaked them. The reason for
for this is you stop the truck and then apply the parking brake, all you do is expand the shoes in the drum. You could sign your name on them and read it the next time you pull it apart since there should be no movement over the drum. Wish I had some pix of the
assembly.
