I Made The Switch...

...to Mozilla Firefox.

First impressions are that it is faster. Pages load up quicker. I have noticed a few quirks with it on some webpages but it is not too bad. I guess I will see how long I use it for.

My oldest Son is a Computer Tech for a local school district and he seems to like it as well.

The only bad thing is that you have to constantly download plugins for the first week or so... Then it's great. Until windows toasts the prefectch file!!

It is a dirty little secret about MS IE that it does NOT adhere to HTML standards. As such, any site optimized for IE doesn't work quite right with any browser that does conform to HTML standards.

I gave up on IE a long time ago. On my Windows machine, I no longer have problems with spyware, popups, and other crap. I don't miss IE at all.

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

I love Firefox. I've only had one or two pop-ups slip through in the 4 or 5 months I've used it.

{network.http.pipelining.maxrequests} = [1,8]

maxrequests only allow integers from 1 to 8
You could set the maxrequests to 100 but it will only be 8 really.
