anybody ever put a dana 60 front from a 78 or 79 f-250,350 into a newer f-250 (87 to 97)? i know the left hand spring mount is made onto the diff, housing but was thinking maybe you could weld a new mount on just to the side of old mount and make things work.the dana 60 for 87 to 97 f-350 s seem really hard to come by,but i can get my hands on tons of them from 78 and 79's.
do not know about the swap your interested in doing but I do know that those 78 and 79 Dana 60's are getting hard to find . If you have or know of a supply maybe we could both make a few bucks because I know several people looking for them. Send me an Email daveflemming@hotmail.com
Yeah its not all that hard to do, you will have to use the calipers off the 78/79 axle as they changed the brackets in the mid 80's sometime i believe, I myself am looking for a set of steering knuckles (and extra axles too) from a HP kingpin dana 60 as i am upgrading a LP 60 i have to 78-79 standards and i need the larger knuckle to clear the u-joint, and if you know of anyone that has a set please send me a pm.
well i dont have tons of them, but between my uncle and myself we are always finding complete trucks with dana 60's in them, and you can buy them for about 500 bucks.also my uncle used to run 79 4WD puller truck,so he has a collection of parts kicking around.
I wish that was the case up here, that being said do you think you would be able to check to see if he would happen to have a set of steering knuckles? (if he does you think you could send me an email?)
I would think about grabing a couple complete trucks with d60 at $500 a copy. I know there are guys out there looking for parts and those axles seem to go fast at $800.
