Just caught the end of a report this evening on the ABC Nightly News about a saftey recall on cruise control switches. Any information out there? I looked at the Ford website and nothing there yet. I have a 2002 Explorer and after seeing all the burned out trucks and garages it makes me a little nervous,
Hi, The Recall Is On The 2000 F-150's, Expeditions, And Some Of The Later 1999 Super Duties. They Are Recalling Over 800,000 Vehicles. But I Wouldn't Be To Woried Because There Were Only 36 Incedents That Happened. That And I Have A 200 F-150 Flareside And I'm Not Real Woried. If You Have Really Any More Questions Just Get A Hold Of Any Ford Dealer And They Can Answer Them. But Ford Is Going To Be Sending Out A Recall In The Mail Sometime In The Middle Of Febuary. Good Luck
Make that 37 incidents that happened. Yes, this happened to my vehicle last Wed. And I drive a 2001 Ford Explorer. (my 3rd explorer)
As I was headed south on Hwy 45 near Hwy 41 by Oshkosh I heard a "pop" and white smoke starting billowing out of my steering column. I immediately pulled over and shut everything down since I figured I had an electrical fire.
The cruise control switch had been pinched off over time and started the electrical fire. I have notified Ford of the problem and my insurance, State Farm, sent an adjuster to verify the problem. An engineer from Ford is to be contacting me soon for my info.
All I can tell you is that I started having problems with my backup lights about 6 weeks before this incident. They are on the same cable as the cruise control switch.
I'd love for Ford to cover this problem financially (I have a $500 deductible) but more than that I don't want anyone else to have this happen to them. I'm concerned since my 3 sisters all drive an Explorer like me.
