Dizzy quest

Heres the story loane dmy sister my back up rig ( 85 f150 300 with a 4 speed for a week , it came diseling real bad ( the worst i have ever seen ) and idling real high . well i thought it was a timing issue got out the gun and played like i have done 2 or 3 times but this time i cant get to quit, couldnt rember what set or matrks to use so i used both and still the same diseling for minutes and running real warm. My quest is can a blown head gasket do this or could my carb do it or what has anybody had this happen ?

Before starting it again - check the oil!!!!!!!

If the oil is thin from water or gas or the oil is very low, you're gonna create way too much heat to get rid of. Check the oil for white/mud color (coolant in oil-bad head gasket) or gas smell (bad fuel pump).

Maybe bad oil pump - no oil circulating.

How about a themostat stuck closed. Hot engine will diesel. The temp gauge should rise slowly then drop some when the thermostat opens. Also should be able to open the cap to see antifreeze circulating well when warmed up.

Timing marks on passenger side are the correct ones to use.

I would probably check real close for vacuum leaks too. Running lean can cause it to run hot.
