'98 Headlight Dilemma

Every so often I notice that my headlights go off when I am driving.
As far as I can tell the parking lights stay on. And dash lights definitely stay on.

Mostly I notice the occurrence when I turn my blinker on.
(I 'm not talking about quickly using the blinker and pulling the brights by mistake)

They will also just turn off sometimes out of nowhere when driving.
They go back on sometimes minutes, sometimes seconds later.
Obviously not safe.

Additionally, it is not the automatic headlight/darkness detector setting on the mirror.
Nor is it the manual headlight on/off switch. Trying to turn them on or off has no effect.

I am hoping that it isn't an electrical problem.
Only noticed recently, I'm not sure if it is cold related.
I know the prior owner well and they never noticed this problem.
It's easy not to notice if you aren't paying attention. Dash lights stay on.
Not safe.

Anybody ?

Sounds like the multi position switch (indicators, main/dip and wipers). Try wiggling it first, if that switches the headlights then the switch needs replacing. Good luck.
