Question Discount for Demo?

Found my truck at Maxwell Ford in Austin...'05 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 Black on Arizona Beige / Tan Leather. It has every option except the bed extender, already has a spray-in bedliner and tinted windows. They let me drive it yesterday afternoon while they had my car in for appraisal (classic dealer trickery...they want me to fall in love, so I'll throw my keys at them and say "I'll take whatever you give me!"). I did fall in love, for sure, but their trade offer is off by $2500-3000 of Edmunds and KBB. They're saying "If we can get the sale price on the truck low enough, would you still consider buying it?"
The truck is a demo w/2500 miles...Window sticker of $42K Invoice of $36,575, and I'm wondering how realistic it is to think that they might agree to a sale price of $33,000 out the door since the truck is a Demo? If they come up to Edmunds value on my trade, I'm still upside down by $2500. If they agreed to $33K, I would be paying $35,500K (This is still "Out the door") which is still below invoice and withing my budget. I would most likely finance through Ford Credit...I am almost sure I would qualify for the 3.9% 60month financing. I'm open to the Red Carpert Option as well. Any dealers or salespeople comments welcome. Thanks in advance.

I'm glad I'm not desking that deal. It looks like there's two issues going on- the value of the trade, and the selling price of the demo.

1) I don't know what your considering trading, but a late model anything isn't worth book right now because of the incentives on the new. How far back depends on what it is- PSD's are worth more than F150's, Tauruses are waaay back, everything else in in between. More info here would help.

2) the demo will get sold for a figure more than almost $4K back of invoice- primarily because it's still available with factory incentives. Demo's are hard to price- they aren't new, and they're not really used either. If you can get it for anything below invoice- they're trying. Remember, the general public doesn't have Jeff available.

3) Under any circumstance, a Red Carpet isn't appropriate for a vehicle with miles already on it- period. It'll cost you in the end.

edit: what's the status of the rebates on that truck? are you considering taking the financing incentives instead?

If your off by that much on your trade, sell it outright, then beat'em to death
on a straight sale price.

My 04 xlt stickered at 35650+400 for a bedliner.....with all the rebates and financing
deals thru ford. I ended up at 25100 + tax and tags. The deal equated to -1700.00
under invoice + all rebates. + 5 milwaukee power tools...a local promotion.

When I look up my truck on ebay and edmunds...the value is 27500+
That's why they are killing you on the trade.

Really want to scare 'em.....ask them about stair stepper cash!!!! Most don't even
know about it,but it will let them know your more knowledgeable than 99% of the
people. I am not sure exactly what it is, but it is a pyramid type incentive to the
dealer for the amount of trucks they move.. Just mention it and smile....see what happens. Joe.

Thanks Guys

My trade is an '02 BMW 530i w/ 39K miles. I don't want to sell it outright because I don't have the time right now with work keeping me at the office 12-14hours/day. Also, I want to be able to offset the taxes a little by trading.

I think I would do 3.9% for 60months over $1500 cash back and looking for my own financing, although I'm talking to my bank and USAA's best rates are in the 5-5.5% range.

I would love to be able to do this deal over the weekend. Otherwise, I will have to wait until May, when I turn my BMW in...there are a few minor door dings, but I worry that I'll end up having to spend $500 or more to get them smoothed out before I can turn the car in. Luckily, I'll still be under my mileage limit (I financed it with Owner's Choice which is like the RCO).

Should I just fax a firm offer to the Sales Manager rather than go in?

OK, 1 step at a time.
1) The BMW. $2500-3000 back of wholesale kelly is where that car is right now- at least up here. It'll also take one more book change between now and the time the lease/option expires. I'd just let it go back- the ending value looks like it's going to be $5K more than the car is worth, and I doubt you'll recoup it trying to sell it privately.

2) I'd call into the store, make nice with the receptionist, and find out the name of the sales manager. Depends on the person- a fax is always appropriate, but sometimes a little face/voice time can do wonders.

Good luck!

take the financing ford offers. There is no early payoff penalty and refinance thru
whomever you chose after 2-3 months at the lower rate and you still get the rebate.

BTW...I had a BMW...They suck.....no resale at all. You gotta buy them used...
55k new for mine....3 years later...in mint condition....26k was the best I could do for it. The same holds true for jaguar. A lexus on the other hand.....holds it value like
no other.... Best of luck..Joe.
