460 4x4

Does anyone have a factory 460 in a 73 to 79 4x4? I had one in a F350 but I sold it and now this guy swears that ford never put one in a 4x4. I dont have any paperwork left over from the truck. Does anyone know the first part of the vin number that tells the engine size? thanks guys

The 3rd digit in the VIN gives the engine size.

J= 460 CID

I know that ford didnot offer the 460 in the 4x4 F150's those years. I'm not sure about the 250's or the 350's.

Hope it helps!!

No 460s in F250 or F350 4X4s in the 70s. No F350 4X4s till 79.

300 I6=B
360=Y
351M=H
400=S

Like stated, not a factory option. Biggest size motor was a 400.

460

The truck I had was a 1979 F350 with a factory 460. It had cruise control,air,tilt,delay wipers, towing package. It was a lariat. I bought in new at the end of 78 with only 13 miles on it. Nobody swapped the 460 in. There had to be more than 1 of them built or I was a big idiot for getting rid of it. lol. thanks for all the info guys.

I have never seen, or is it listed in any book that I have a factory produced 460. The 460 was only used in the 2WD models.

Sound's like every FORD truck "nut's" perfect fantasy OE truck. I know it would be mine.

Oh I can still remember driving my brand new '79 4x4 F150 the very 1st day from the dealer back home! If you only had known what these truck's were going to turn out being worth back then.
