Is there an easy way to pull the windshield from an 86 F150. I am just looking for an hints or tricks that work good. I pulled the rear slider with no problems so this shouldn't be that bad. Thanks for the help.
The easiest way I know is to get a hold of that special little tool that the glass guys use to pull the trim. Maybe the local auto parts people in your area will have one. I know Can.tire sells it through there Lisle program. Once you have that tool the job is a snap!
You need a molding release tool to get the molding off. You didn't say if you were trying to get the w/s out without breaking it or you are just instlling a new one. If you are trying to save it, good luck, you will need it. I'm betting that you will break it unless the old butyl has completely let go.. After you get the molding off, you will need a special knife, called a cable knife, to cut the butyl and get the w/s out. Take a 1/2 in. wood chisel and scrape off all of the old butyl. Clean it up real good. Now you have to make a choice...use butyl adhesive and have a leak (they all seem to) or install it with urethane adhesive like the 87 up pickups used. The urethane is better by far. Use "high vicosity" urethane so the windshield won't collapse the adhesive. Depending on the brand of adhesive, you may need to prime the w/s and pinchweld. Follow the maker's instructions to the letter. The windshield is an integral part of the cab strength. Install the new w/s on the urethane and snap the chrome back on. It works better to wash the w/s inside and out before you install it. Wear latex gloves so you don't get finger oils on the glass and also makes clean up afterwards easier. Brakeclean or electric contact cleaner will work for removing butyl or urethane from your hands, clothes, sheetmetal, etc. Oh, if you can't tell by this, I make my living installing autoglass. Good luck
