I need to know what transmission I have. It is a 86 F150 with a straight 6 cylinder granny gear four speed. There is a 4x6" access plate on the passenger side. It has a ten spline input shaft. It weighs about 160 lbs. Numbers cast into it are C-13894. There are 2" tall white block letters on the side that read E3TAU. The stick makes two curves coming up through the floor. Can some one tell me what it is? Thanks.
If its a cast iron brute and your truck is the year you said it is its probably a T-18 Borgwarner I can't remember if they used the NP-435 in the year of truck yours is. A T-18 tranny is good I have one in my old 1980 F-350 dually LWB flatdeck and I find it shifts nicer than the old NP435s the gears seem tobe more evenly stepped but the T-18s first gear isn't as low as the 435 the only real drawback. The plate on the side of the transmission that is held by 6 bolts is where you bolt on a PTO.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jul-02 AT 05:09 PM (EST)]Yep, the NP435, T-18, and T-19 were offered in '86. NP435 has a low of 6.69 while the T-18's is 6.32. The T-19's is 5.11 and is the only one with a synchronized first gear.
What's the transmission code on the driver's door jamb label?
A: NP435
F: T-18
P: T-19
Also, the NP435 (mine anyway) has the "NP" logo cast near the PTO access plate.
BigBlue: With the PTO cover on the pass. side, it sounds like a NP 435 to me, easy way to tell, the NP 435 has an aluminum top cover, while everything else is all cast iron.

Thanks to every one for your help. It is a NP435. I pulled it out of the 86 F150 back in 1988 and installed one with overdrive because I was commuting from Minneapolis to St. Louis. It has been under the work bench for thirteen years. It is now officially for sale, now that I have identified it. Anyone want it? I am in Minneapolis. Thanks
