I have 1990 ford f350 460 ci. with edo4 transmission 97000 miles, transmission rebulit at 72000 added additional tran cooler to existing cooler. I have heard that you should bypass radiator trans cooler because they have restrictions. anybody have a awnser? Have installed Thorley headers 3inch exhast and Gear venders aux. transmission lots of power, getting 9 miles gal. on level freeway pulling 33 ft. 5th wheel
Not sure where that would come from, I have an internal radiator cooler and external transmission finned cooleer from the factory as well as an oil cooler on my 460. The E4OD or any auto trans for that matter runs better when cooler. I'd run both. I run a 160° thermostat as it tends to be hotter than colder in Georgia and at 239,000+ I've had no issues with my E4OD. I pull a Featherlite 3 horse slant and get about the same, between 9 and 10 mpg on the interstate. Once in the foothills of the Smokies it changes to 6-10mpg.
I agree, keep the stock in-tank cooler connected and run the aux cooler in addition to it.
How do you like the Gear Vendors? With an E4OD and a Gear Vendors, that truck must have a fast top speed! I have a C6 and have wanted a Gear Vendors for a long time, especially since swapping to 4.56 gears in the axles. It pulls great with the low gears, but with no overdrive in the trans, top speed is limited. I don't drive all that fast anyways, but another gear sure would be nice for out on the interestate. I'm getting 12-15 mpg with my crewcab 4x4 and 351 engine as long as I don't try to drive too fast .

If i put a gear vender in my 1993 f350 with a 460. Will i gain a little bit in the fuel economy or is it just going to make it easier for me to haul my camper and pull my boat.
Will i be able to go faster with out the engine rpms climbing...............
Thanx!!!
