I may be off my rocker here. But, I think thats the same block cast as mine, which is a 1966 428! The heads are desireable 64 castings, that flow very well, from what I've read here.
can you see the back of the motor? Look at the 5th picture on this page. If yours has the A, then it's probably a 428. http://www.thedreyerfamily.com/69f250/67f250/fe446.htm
I'm not a csating ID guru, so hopefully somebody we'll correct me if I am mistaken....
Yep as these guys mentioned the C6ME is on the 360,390,410 and 428 blocks. As gtex described the C6ME 428 blocks will have a sandscratch "A" on the back of the block. Rusty is correct on the heads and as mentioned most likely a G not 6. Is the intake iron or aluminum and 4 bbl? Since your rebuilding the engine measure the bore. A 360,390 and 410 all have a 4.05 bore and the 428 at 4.13. This should tell you if it's a 428 or not at least. If the bore measured 4.05 the blocks for the 360,390 and 410 are all the same for the C6ME casting number. G.
Rowdyh, you should really start your own thread when you have a new question like that.
I believe you can get the motor perches and mounts for an FE and bolt it in. You'll also need a different bellhousing since the bolt pattern is different.
Get the block's date code under where the oil filter adapter locates to the block. You should see a flat spot towards the bottom of the block that has number/letter/number(s) cast into the block. This is the date code and will tell the exact year/month/day the block was cast. From the stroke numbers posted it's still unclear which it could be but looks very close to a 390 3.78 stroke on the higher end. Again the casting numbers off the crank and rods will tell you exactly what your dealing with. That and the cylinder bore measurement will help determine the engine size. Without the A on the back of the block you at least know it's not a 428. I think the clock is the time and or shift the block was cast. DIF is Dearborn Iron Foundry and 23 the mold number used for the casting. C4AE-G heads are 64-65 352/390 heads. The date code for the heads are above the C4-G number under the valve cover area. Again a number/letter/number sequence. Heads might be original if a late 65 date code depending on the blocks date code. Your right it's not the original engine. Let us know what you can find. G.
block date code (its a bad casting-kinda hard to read)5 E 12 with a Big letter V above date code. I believe that a cast date of May 12 1965
Head date code 5 F 23on head under valve cover I believe that a cast date of June 23 1965
