speedo head question.

I just replaced the speedo cable, thanks to some help with guys from here.
The truck is an 88 Lariate 4x4 7.3

Now the speed is running slow, and the odometer is not counting accurately. It was fine befor the cable broke, but has run without a cable for the past year and a half.

I drove the truck and had sombody follow me ina car. My trip meter from 0 read 3.2 KM and the one in the car 3.7KM. Mine in only counting about 86% of the acctual mileage.

My tires are 265/75/16 (near stock) and the drive gear in the diff is pink ( I belive correct for the 3.55 rear.

Any idea why the speedo is slow? By the way, lets say that I get the speed to 60 KM/H and then slow down as if coming to a stop, when I stop moving, it will be at 40ish and finally drop to about 20. It will never go right to zero unless I go in reverse. Again, this speed was working fine when the cable let go.

My speedo gear in my 86 is a light green color. I have 3.55's and run 33" (285/75-16) mud tires. My speedo is dead on for speed and miles traveled.
