coatings

Hi all, I read a page a while back about building an exteme performance OTR diesels. These guys were using a Cummins that originally had about 400 hp. They built them up to 850-900, with some special builds over 1000. They said after what they have learned and seen building these, they would coat the piston tops in ANY engine- cars, pickups snowmobiles and even chainsaws. They said that the coating doesn't really have a noticeable effect on the power, but it DOES protect the piston. If the piston fails because of your lean or rich or high boost condition, then you aren't making any power. The coating gives you more room to tune for power, not to be forced to tune for what you think the slugs will tolerate. DF, @ his Dad's
