The only time hardened seats are needed is when you are turbo or supercharging, using nitrous, or planning on running the engine hard for long times. For a daily driver/play rig, non-hardened seats are ok.
What a great looking truck, hope that you are able to get it when your Gramp is able to part with it. Yes it is every bit as nice as you think it is, I can see the pride in that truck.
What you don't realize is that most of the time these trucks are rust buckets and require Dr. Frankenstein type of resurrection work. The floor mat in your gramps' truck looks brand new. I paid $20 for an old original floor mat with high miles on it. The condition of that truck is what most of us plow tons of time and money to get to. My neighbor has a similar truck. His is a 70 F100 with 80K original miles. He only drives it in summer and bought it from an old guy that did the same. It's never been on a road that's been salted in winter. The cab mounts still look new. It sits out so the paint looks bad but the interior looks brand new. His floor mats look just like those on your gramps' truck. As soon as my neighbor is willing to part with his it's mine and all I'll have to do is paint it on the exterior and I'll have one sweet truck.
Hope you get it soon, the suspense is killing me! Leave the price up to Grandpa, I`m sure from the sounds of it that he will be more than fair with you. Like I said before that a good home would be way more important to me that the $.
Nothing yet...I told him I would have the money by mid March. I spoke to him early to give him plenty of time to think about it. Also it gives plenty of time for Grandma to work on him to sell it.
The suspense is killing me as well. It's hard not to bring it up when I talk with them.
I'm glad to hear from you Ford truck nuts that his truck is as nice as I think it is. The only thing I will need to do (other than tires, belts, hoses, etc) is to detail the engine compartment. While it is not in bad shape it just needs a little attention to make it look like the rest of the truck.
Like I've said before I have primarily been a Chevy car guy (68 Chevelle and 68 Camaro..the camaro is my wife's). But I love cars and trucks in general, especially older ones that are in great shape.
Once I know I will let you know, this board is like a support group for those of us without a Ford truck Yet,
I think that is a good approach even though it is sometimes hard to wait but it will be worth it. Just think of how it will be when you do get this truck and how much you will enjoy it. In the mean time research this forum for info and tips on detailing your treasure. Becareful though as this fine Ford will turn you into a Ford guy. That is a good thing though. Stay in touch and let us know when you get this truck, I`ll be waiting right along with you.
