Looks like I'm making a trip to Wal Mart. It's the 8088 adhesive. The upholstery guy told me it would work just fine and that he uses it also. Now I'm a little concerned? LOL... I think I'll get the stuff your talking about, don't want to do this a second time. Thanks Fatfenders.
Cool idea there. I may have to try them. My original plan was to glue down some nice fabric to a closed cell foam and them glue the foam to the panels.

Your uphostery man doesn't use 3M 8088 for heavy fabric. At least he shouldn't. Ask Gearup if you don't believe me. I use 8088 a lot, but only for very light material. The 3M 90 is a good compromise. Easy to find, very strong, soak through characteristics not too bad.
I've used 1/8" tempered hardboard in my spitfire and had very good results. curves and all. We just wet it and used steam.{tempered doesn't wet very well] lots of steam.. take your time it will bend. and hold its shape when dry. good luck
I just picked up a sheet of 1/8" tempered board from my upholsterer. Going to cut out the back panel and even cut out some kick panels with it.
Spitty- welcome to FTE, I haven't heard about steaming the board to make it bend? What are you using to create steam to bend the board?
well I used a propane burner like on a turkey fryer. or a campstove. and a big ole pot of water. Not very fancy or hightech. But it did the job. hope it helped. I'll do mine that way when I get to it. Right now I'm stuckin the nightmare of hood ,fender and cab alignment. Does it ever end?....
"I just picked up a sheet of 1/8" tempered board from my upholsterer."
Oh really? Tempered board fron the upholsterer? So I'm not cootied bobbin after all. Somebody change the name of my other thread to "Fender's make a back wall like the Pros"
Keep good notes on the steaming operation. I'm going to be surprised if you can get a good fit. Easily anyway. Good luck.
I bought a sheet from him for $20. He said it would work for the kick panels, door panels also, which I'm going to give a shot at. The original panel w/ carpet which was on the wall, had the 1/8" board on it also. The middle was spliced together with vinyl and sewn. I'd use the original, but it looks like water got in and warped the board to the extent it is no longer flat. My guess was when the back window was removed to do the body work, they didn't bother covering anything when they wet sanded. It definitely needs to be replaced. I'll see what happens and let you know.
