I have a 94 Expl XLT 4WD only 92k miles. I lost brake pedal and repair shop bled the lines, I went maybe 15 miles when it dropped to the floor again. Towed back to the repair shop again and they put on master cylinder. Went 10 miles and lost the pedal AGAIN! This time had it towed home. Had MY mechanic check it out, put in another master and bled all the lines again. Nice hard pedal but again after a few miles the pedal drops to the floor. It must be something with the rear brakes not engaging, the tire spins. He has checked and rechecked bled and re-bled, analyzier says everything OK. We are at a loss with what could be wrong. Any ideas Thanks
When it looses the pedal, will it pump back up. That is, if you pump the pedal will it come back. If not, has anyone checked the vacuum powered Booster. I have seen these go bad and have the symptoms you're describing.. Of course you should also check the calipers and the rear brake cylinders first (as mentioned by others previously). Don't forget to check around the bleeder nuts as they could be leaking.
Thanks for help..sorry didn't get back sooner, computer crashed. NO Loss of fluid, the calipers are fine, so are the cylinders. When pump brake pedal goes down not to the floor but pretty close. Last time I did that seemed to hear a swoosh, swoosh when pressing the pedal ...having the booster checked this weekend. ALso heard about RABS what the heck is that??
