Just put a new master cylinder on the F250, It had gotten to the point where I'd step on the brakes and the pedal would go to the floor...pump the brakes and they would work ...release the brakes ..try them again and they were on the floor again! I went to the Autozone and got the master cylinder..went home and bench bled the cylinder,,,went to put it on the truck only to find that it was the WRONG SIZE!!!! I dumped the fluid out and went back and got the CORRECT one. bled it...installed it and the brakes work well...but need to be bled really good to get the "mud "outta the lines...
I've messed around with various wrenches and they "fit" but I can't seem to get any leverage on the wrench where the Ford engineers decided to put the bleeders on the rear..
Anyone know any tricks and or the correct wrench to use? I dont have the cash to replace all the wheel cylinders..so right now thats not an option..
I think I used a 3/8" 6-point socket to break it loose. it'll either break loose, or break off. after i broke it loose, i just used a 3/8" 6 point wrench.
btw, wheel cylinders are like $8USD a piece if you break off a bleeder
Thanks for the info..I sprayed the heck out of the bleeders with some darn good break free stuff (catalist?)..I'll give it hell in the AM. If I remember correctly, I think these bleeders are 7/16ths? It could very well be 3/8ths though...I didnt try too hard as I was already irritated and have a tendencey to break things when in a hightened state of aggitation..
I'm happy that the master cylinder was only about $20!!
You could be right, I know they are small. make sure you use a 6point wrench/socket. it is amazing how much better they work if you have a stubborn bolt
