After switching to synthetic gear oil for some reason my tranny is having a really hard time getting into and out of all gears but especially 2nd. When going into gear it feels like im almost hitting something or somethings blocking me to get into gear theres no grinding so im guessing the clutch is ok. what could this be. i have to check the fluid and make sure all the bolts are there and tight and possibly adjust the clutch but what else could make it do that ...synchros?
also this happens when the tranny is warm or cold.
I'm getting ready to swap in one of those in my 73 Bronco. If it were
me I would drain out the culprit oil and put back in what you were
running, that is if it was fine before. Maybe it just doesn't like the
oil you put in. MY .02 RZ
no jpb222 i havent adjusted the clutch yet. it probably needs it but i figured it would grind if it was the clutch. thats the next thing on my list tho. Its just so darn cold here and i hate being in the garage. I only have little heater so its brutal.
You don't need to run Synthetic oil in a NP435 drain it out and put regular 80-90 weight back in. These old 4spd gear grinders are tough as nails I rarely changed the oil in mine it really wasn't needed.
The oil has to be thick enough to cling to the gears and sling around the gear case to lubricate all the syncros etc. I don't know what weight of Synthetic or brand you are using but it maybe too thin so its not clinging to the internals.
well i really dont know why i used synthetic. must have been an impuls now that im thinkin about it. cant change it now tho all i can do is drain out 35 bucks lol. but i used 75w-90
