Air Pump Noise

I have an 87 F150 with a 302 and automatic trans, truck has only 47,000 miles on it. I notice a lot of rattling in the front of the engine, sounds like it's coming from the air pump. Do the air pumps usually make noise?

I think I have a noisy air pump too, '91 7.5. Haven't looked into what to do about it.

I have a 87 f150 and the air pump is noisey when cold, but after about 3 or 4 minutes of driving it goes away. Ford is known for noisey air pumps.

I have an 1987 F150 with the 4.9L. A few years ago my air pump seized and left me dead in the water because of the serpentine belt. The new one rattles so it may be normal noise. However your truck is 18 years old, the pumps are cheap and easy to replace, you may want to fix it before you get stuck somewhere.
