power steering pump issues
Okay so i have a 1977 f250 4x4 with the ram assist style power steering. the truck would steer hard on idle so i put a new pump on it. the new pump leaked badly around where the pressure hose attached. it wasnt leaking around the hose but from the pump itself. i brought it back and they gave me another. this pump spews out foamy power steering fluid from where the dipstick attaches and makes a horrid growling noise. i figured it was just air in the lines but the problem hasnt gone away. i dont see any leakes in the lines. any help? i really dont want to change the pump for a third time lol

What PS fluid are you running? Type F ATF should be good (Walmart or parts store). Common parts store PS fluid should be OK also. Agree normal use, if the PS is basically working, should get the air out with time. My later gear type PS took several weeks to stop moderate noise after pump replacement.
I guess there could be a problem in the valves or cylinders, but make sure fluid is right and give it some time first would be my suggestion.
