Went to put my truck in drive today and it made a pop noise . Now the shifter is extremely limp and flops around. It is now nearly imppossible to get it into reverse and I have not been able to put it into park. It has been feeling loose for a while but nothing at all like this. I have searched the site and found about 2 threads which I think may help. I have also looked in my chilton manual but it offers next to nothing. So I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction before I start ripping the steering column apart to see if I can find something shifter related that is broken or loose . Thanks,
Chris
Look under the truck to. There is a linkage down there. On my '67 Dodge truck my dash shifter wasn't working right. To go into reverse I had to shift down to N then back to R and I would be in reverse. One day while I was installing a new trany gasket I noticed that a bolt that held the bracket for the shifter cable was 75% unthreaded! It was going to fall out and not work soon! I would check the linkage, you might fix it with a simple tighting of something! I did. hehe
