I saw an article about it in Qantas magazine way back in 2000 and was pretty impressed. Nice to see it's finally taped out, I imagine those 555 seat configurations would be extremely comfortable. Definitely want to fly on one some day.
i would hope never also! after having watched 9-11-01 go down from the hudson river, i truly hope we the free world can make sure it never ever happens again.
I don't really know how well this will do. They need to sell 250 to make their money back. They recently unvailed a new plane called the "Dreamliner" that was smaller and touted having the best fuel economy. Seems to make a whole lot more sense to me then riding on a plane with 600 people for what I can only imagine will be INSANE ticket prices. But, we'll see.
They will sell. Look at all the 747's that have been sold and are still in service. I think 250 units will be delivered unless the whole global economy goes in the tank.
I don't think you can look at it from a carnage perspective unless a high explosive is used. Most planes are overdesigned and you can be sure this one was as well, especially in light of what could happen.
Hopefully the A380 won't vibrate like the smaller POS Airbusses that Air Canada has. Toronto-Calgary flights that I took on them were audio nighmares that left my ears ringing.
AL.
Flew on an A320 several years ago from Minneapolis/St. Paul to BWI.
Shweeeeeeeeeeeeet aircraft.
Popular Mechanics did a write up a year (or so) back on the A380 ("3XX" at the time). Restaurant, showers, shops onboard an airliner. . . .
I only have one concern with the 380. . . . runway length.
In man's quest to rule the skies, we're gonna have to encroach upon nature some more and lengthen the runways to handle this behemoth!
I didn't pay that much attention. How many airports (today) can handle it without MAJOR renovations?

I'm surprised that any airliner would want a Restaurant, showers or shops aboard an airliner. They can make more money by filling up that square footage with seats. I could see then having a "booth" where people can buy snacks and such, but and actual full service restaurant? Still it's a cool plane.

Yeah. . . I JUST threw the magazine out, about a month ago.
They showed the concept as a 'flying hotel'. Duty Free shops, etc. Strange.
I can't imagine showers and the like on a passenger plane.
I agree about filling the seats to capacity, then adding a few more squeezed in between. Maximize profits.
Around here, they call that kind of seating, "Cattle Class." Just herd 'em in.
That bird will probably darken the sky, it's so big.
