I'm just wondering, what does the lift pump do? How is it different than the fuel pump? I've heard they are classic for failing at around 100k miles. Is this true?
as far as i know its just another word for fuel pump, they are mechanical and are
activated by a rod that comes through the block that runs off a lobe on the cam
i believe. That could be true about them generally going out at 100k, some may
last longer and some may crap out sooner than that every trucks a little different.
But lift pumps are kind of old school, mine has a inline electronic pump.
Yes, it is just another name for a fuel pump, except the ones on these trucks are different from the others, they are higher pressure pumps, 50-65 psi they will build. located right on top of the engine down in the valley, right behind/under the fuel bowl. Mine has lasted the 42,000 I have owned the truck, and as far as I can tell it is the original one with 200,000+ Cross your fingers.....
Good Luck Diesel Rod! Mine only has 115k! Runs great, I was just wondering why it gives me a hesitation from off idle sometimes. And the other day, a stall while driving (already replaced CPS).
the lift pump is more of a term on non heiu injected motors, where theres a lift to get it to 40 or so psi and an injector pump to take it to 1500 or so psi.
