Hi,Does anyone know why my 1992 eb explorer will not start. It turns over really fast.I cleaned all my connections on the battery + and- because i had this problem before. After claening the connections it fired up.But its doing it again.i think its my Coil.Any thought s on this and does anyone know where the coil is located and how much it is to be replaced.what else could it be.I pulled off 2 spark plug wires and turned it over and there was no spark at all.Thank-you, Jeff
It's worth your while to try and pull codes and do diagnostics. It's not a coil like the older vehicles, it's a coil pack (no distributer) and when I bought one a couple of years back it was over $100 as I recall. Likewise the ignition module is also expensive (I think it was over $80). Please note, all those prices are working from memory, but I don't think they are far off. On mine, the problem turned out to be a loose conection on the ignition module plug so I paid a lot for parts I didn't need.
Thanks for all your input guys but i really dont know where half of these parts are.Bad ecc,ckp or ignition module. Not sure where to check.Anyone know of a site on here that shows pictures of theses parts,Thanks again,Jeff
I was in a similar position last year. Here is what I suggest.
(this is what I did too by the way...)
Buy a Haynes or Chilton manual. Go throught the basics (plugs, plug wires, oil, oil filter, air filter, PVC valve, check vacuum lines). Chances are you need these things anyway. Buy good quality plugs and wires. Make sure the battery is functioning at a high level. Replace if necessary and make sure the connections are tight.
See what happens.
If your still having problems we can discuss ignition systems and fuel systems.
I have rebuilt 50% of my truck with advice from FTE and Haynes.
Sounds like the same thing I am going threw with my 175,000 mile 93. Every now and then no start. When this happens no spark at the plugs or coil pack end. Also the check engine light stays on the whole time yet after any thing from a few mins to hour of trying to turn it over and fire when it fires the light go's out right away. I have no money to take it in to shop and get codes so hope cleaning the contacts help well find out sooner or later I believe. Hard to keep this thing running but I love it but I live on SSI disability so not much left for repairs ggrrrr!
Thanks all for the info. I plan to try auto zone tomorrow and I will post what I find out. Can do all the work my self once I know what to look for and do. May some day get ride of it for an old v8 that’s pre smog or exempt here in calif that way I will fully know what I am doing then you know shade tree work over LOL

Did you look at the link Mrshorty posted earlier? www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html
You can pull the codes without a reader. It may be simpler to use a reader, but it can be performed using the information on that site.
