installing fuel neck grommet
Going to paint next week and once finish need to install new parts; the only one on the top of my head that puzzle me to install is the new rubber fuel neck grommet; What are some of if not the only techinque use to put grommet and fuel filler tube back on to the tank via the rubber hose connection?

1) mount the tank 2) install short rubber hose to tank fill neck make sure both hose clamps are on but loose 3) install rubber grommet in body 4) use some K.Y. jelly to lube the filler tube and inside of grommet 5) slide the filler tube in from the outside until its seated in the short hose 6) tighten the hose clamps
The K.Y. is water based and will rinse away clean. Make sure to position the hose clamps where you can get to them.

Well, for starters, DON'T install that fuel neck grommet till AFTER the paint is done.
Assuming you already knew that, then here is the killer trick. After all the above have failed or proven cumbersome, find a nice heat gun (or the wife's oven at 200 deg. far.) and warm the piece of 2 1/4 " fuel hose up real nice beforehand and then move quick (with gloves) to put it all together.
Have fun.....

During my motorcycle days a parts guy at the cycle shop taught me a method of installing rubber goods that has worked for me for a long time.
If you just put some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spray both the rubber and the neck they will slide together without any effort what so ever.
It takes a little time for the alcohol to dry but once it does it is set.
Good luck
