This is the last option I am looking at before I order my new SD, looking at a 2005 F-350 CC 6.0 PSD, I am wondering if a sliding rear window, none the less a power sliding rear window, is effective in a crew cab, currently I own a F-250 regular cab, and I have the slider, and I love it, but with the crew cab I wonder how effective is it?
I like to run with the windows down and the slider open. Kinda cuts down on some of the wind noise. Only drawback is reaching it in a crew cab. If I were going to get one, I would get the power slider.
Mine works if that is what you mean by effective. Everyone who sees it open automatically thinks its pretty cool. It is difficult telling people to STOP...don't force it, it is a power slider when they ride in the back and put their grubby little hands all over it.
When I first saw Power Rear Slider option on the SD, I was under the impression that the whole window (like the Tundra) retracted. Now that would be cool.
I know what you mean, by keeping it open with the windows open, so basically it has the same effect in the crew cab...it lessens the blasting air coming in through the side windows, and blows all the leaves, twigs, and whatever else in the bed into the seating compartment...Thanks for the help
i love the power slider in my crew cab. It is almost impossible to reach the back glass unless you have long arms. With the power just a touch of a button and it is open. Well worth the money
I have had many of the power rear sliders in my Fords way before Ford started offering as an option on now the Lariat only Package. I don't recall the lube I used back then but it was not WD40. Check with an aftermarket Truck accessory shop & if they also install the power rear windows they will have the lube for it.
I like a hole in the roof better than a power slider.
I say if you are going to use it often go for it. I have the moon roof and the rear power slider now on my 04. I like the moonroof a whole bunch. It lights up the cab, gives good ventilation in the tipped up mode, and is real neat wide open up till 60 MPH when it gets a little noisy. In the 9 months I have owned this truck I have only opened the rear window three times. Most mechanical things work better when you use them all the time so I figure I don't use the power slider enough so I didn't order it in my 05. I certainly did order another moonroof because we use that all the time. We have a moonroof in our Honda Accord but we had to get that little plexiglass cover put on to quiet it down. The SD designed their hole in the roof a lot better. Take care, Wrench

Wrench...I have a manual slider now in my regular cab SD, and I have used it a total of 10 times. I park my truck by a tree near my house, and I always forget to clean out the back, and when I open the window, leaves are flying all over the cab. I don't think a power slider will aid me in this effort, but I like the effect the slider has on the noise of the wind when you windows are open.
So far as a moon roof, I never had one, and the top of my head would look like a boiled lobster if I caught to much sun on it, after hair club for men treatment, then maybe a moon roof.
Have you tried highway running with both the moon roof and the rear slider open? It is like being in a wind tunnel as the air comes in the back and out the top.
