I have the 1994 F350 Crew Cab 2WD Dually with the 7.3L turbo. can anyone explain why I have a Voltage gauge and a Battery light both mounted in the dash. Is one for the ALT and the other for the battery?? when i'm driving the voltage gauge is alway well on the charge side but the battery light keeps coming on and bliking the light doesnt go off untill I hit about 45 to 50 mph. I have never had a problem with it starting.
You must have XLT package, the battery light just tells alt is working or not (off/on) the volt guage is to show battery voltage level/condition. Can also tell you if GP controller and GPs are working by lowered votage as WTS light is on and swing as cycling is happening.
I have the XLT package and the same problem. Most of the time, the volt meter is in the center or slightly to the right, but the battery indicator light flickers. It does this more at low speed than high speed.
I suspect that the alt is about to die, how do I test its output.
If your light is flickering it would be telling you it is not charging all the time. This could indicate brushes are worn or possibly regulator is going bad. I had flickering and replaced the brush assy, all is good now.
I had the same problem on my 89 f-350. I cleaned the heck out of the terminals on both batteries, and the starter solenoid. Problem solved. IT may not be your problem, but it's worth a shot.
Thanks PLC7.3
I'll Check the output of the Alt this weekend more than likely it's the voltage reg. On the up side I have a guy here in Elgin that will rebuild the whole Alt for around $75.00 unless the Armature is bad then he'll have to add a new one to the price.
