oil leak

i have an oil leak on a 92 idi. the leak is on the front of the block drivers side very bottom just above the oil pan. there is some sort of block that comes out and truns into a tube, the tube runs to the back of the block were it meets the oil filter. were the block of the motor meets the tube is were it is leaking. i cant post pics because i dont have the ability.the question is how hard is it going to be to do this and what am i looking at??

Sounds like the oil cooler, there are gaskets for that from ford or IH i believe. There will be quite a but of work to get it off and out, engine lifting may be required.

The front header for the cooler is of course the worst to service. What vehicle is this in, please fill in your signature with truck info it sure helps here.

If you need oil cooler R&R info email me.........

ok sorry it is a 92 idi 350 4+2 and yes it is the front. do i have to use a gasket?? i have always had much better luck useing rtv silicone instead of paper gaskets. how long does it take and will engine lifting be needed, these are two very reimportant questions. i have an acount with the int dealer so getting the part is not a problem, if i cant just silicone it.

What I've always done is put a very thin film of silicone on both sides of the gasket. This will ensure a perfect seal. If only silicone is used, small pieces of it can break off and float around in the oiling system.

why165 there is only one way to do the cooler and that is the right way. If it screws up you could drain all the oil in a few seconds at highway speed or send coolant into the oil system to take care of the bearings.

Lifting the engine slightly is required, it only has to go up 1" but other things have to be removed too. If you want the info click on my name and select email fill it out and send it..........2ezy

I had to replace the seals on mine last month cause it was leaking at the headers. I just detached the stearing linkage from the gear box and that gave me enough room to get the oil cooler out without having to lift the motor any.
