9" Differential Question
The other way to know FOR SURE is:
To Pull one.
If the splined end tapers they are 28 spline.
If the slines run into the smooth area with no taper,they are 31.

9" Differential Question
There is a couple of rears used in the 80's but you should have a 8.8" rear with 31 spline axles. If you are putting in new gears you have to pull the axles anyway so just count the splines to be sure.
