I finally pulled the long been clogged up rear tank on my 84 F 150. I found that the sending unit is completely clogged up and when I went to take the sock filter off and unclog it the filter came apart in my hands. Also, the float was gaslogged and wore out. I'm wonderin if there's a kit available to rebuild the sending unit because I dont wanna fork over 120 bucks for a new one unless I gotta. Or, anybody know of a place that sells em for cheaper than that? Any help appreciated.
When my float became gas logged I drilled a small hole in it - drained it - then filled the hole with gas tank repair epoxy. It has been working ever since ( 2 years now).
I had a sending unit in my 1984 f250 that I repaired. Iremoved the
sending unit/pump. Then carefully pried open the sending unit case
(metal). You must be gentle. You will see one contact point and the wire that it contacts to send the signal. Well, I took some Q-tips and b-12 and carefully cleaned all the areas of contact. Closed the case and reinstalled the unit. It works better than the new(other tank) unit that I paid $375. at the dealer a couple of years ago. I hope this will help you.
Ps Dont buy autozone electrical parts. It will just set you back in time and money. I use dealer or NAPA
I was shocked to find out the sending units skyrocketed in price as well. I went to put one in my 85 F250 and it was gonna be $300 for the tank and sending unit. I wish i had have bought stock in the sending unit company because now I would be rich.
