I have a 2003 GMC Denali, If there is a person in the front seat that weighs less that a certain amount.(like a kid)the passenger side airbag automatically turns it self off.I heard that 2005 f sieres trucks had that capability. But i cant find it anywhere in the manual. Does the passenger side airbag work like this in the superdutys?
You didn't mention what model Denali you have- I'm assuming a Yukon or an XL. The airbags have a manual shutoff on the supercabs, but no shutoff on the Crews. In any event, it's recomended that small children be strapped into the back seat (also true on the Freestyle).
The software in your Denali is tricky- there are certain parameters that cause the system to be de-activated, and a might comes on to tell you the status of the system. GM also recommends that children be seated in the rear of that Denali. The upshot is, neither manufacturer assumes any liability should a child be seated in the front of all the vehicles mentioned.
The air-bag deactivation is actually there to minimize repair-expense in the event of a collision, not to allow children in the front of the vehicle. That's the official line, anyway.
