Hi all. I have a 1992 F-150 302,automatic. The engine was changed about 3000 miles ago and ever since it has shifted into third at around 20-22 mph. When cruising at 55 and go to pass it shifts down but seems to be slipping badly. This started after the engine swap. Can some one please tell me how to properly adjust the t.v. cable from the intake to the transmission? Thank you.
Assuming it's a AOD:
Unlock the TV control cable at the throttle body, use a small screwdriver to pry the clamp out of the self-adjusting mechanism. Use a spring or a helper to hold the TV lever on the side of the trannie against it's idle postion stop (rotate it towards the rear). Then lock the TV control cable clamp at the throttle body. Make sure the throttle lever is at it's idle position while you lock it.
Try driving it and you can move the adjustment a little bit at a time, one way or the other to get it to shift the way you like. ...Terry '90 F150, 302, AOD
ps. It scares me when you say 'slipping badly' !!??
If you drove it much with it slipping it is a goner. Never drive a vehicle with a slipping transmission. Tow trucks, taxicabs, rentals, and airlines are much cheaper transportation.
